Longevity - further listening and reading for thirsty minds
Hello beautiful crew!
This month's theme is centred on salads. They can be so simple to make, so fresh to enjoy, crazy easy to prepare, and make you feel like you're going to live forever! Longevity is today's vibe here at Health Geek HQ.
Every day, we are bombarded with billboards of junkfood and encouraged to make poor food choices. Marketers know this form of advertising works. That's why advertising is a multi-million euro industry - it works!
Imagine if we could increase our exposure to the right type of advertising? Billboards of fruit and veg? Wholefoods that will improve both quality and quantity of our years? Images normalising home cooking instead of praising people for being too busy to cook? Our bodies would look a lot different. At present, 66% Irish adults are either clinically overweight or obese. And depending on gender, that number can be higher. It's no coincidence that junk food advertising dominates our landscape.
How do we redress that? Here is my attempt to help you balance the scales. I want to increase your exposure to brilliant minds in the wellness space, to researchers on the front line of nutrition, to medical scientists who can report on longevity and confirm how food and environmental factors play such an integral role. I hope it helps. I firmly believe if we surround ourselves with supportive resources, our bodies will reward us by singing louder and for longer! That’s my core mission with Taking the Hell out of Healthy. You are your own best teacher.
Longevity is the buzzword of 2023, so I imagine we'll continue into August with this topic. I have yet to introduce you to experts Dr. Peter Attia, Dr. Mark Hyman and Dr. David Sinclair. If you're short on time to indulge the list below, a fair (if somewhat vulgar) summary would be to keep your pipes on speaking terms with you, fall in love with beans, and make sure your heart and lungs are breakdancing everyday.
